Face Sheet: what it is, how to do it, template and tips

Although it does not look like the cover page is an important item of course completion work. It is identity, presentation, a kind of “business card” of your work.

When we are doing a CBT, we worry about a lot of things that we think are more important. The theme, reference works, pre-project, etc.

We’re passionate about delivering the best content possible. However, there are small elements that we will notice only when it comes to doing the job, such as the cover page

In this article we will see together how to properly make a cover page for a course completion job. Let’s check the rules that must be followed and the theoretical details defined by the Association of Technical Standards.

What is the cover page?

According to NBR 14724 the cover page is the “sheet containing the essential elements to the work identification”.

It is worth noting that data are contained both on the front (front) and on the back (the back) of the sheet.

The cover page comes shortly after the cover and is a must in academic work.

As already mentioned, the rules required to make a cover page for academic papers are defined by NBR 14724 (Information and documentation – Academic works – Presentation). Let us see how to elaborate it.

Data on the title page

In general, the data on the cover sheet as determined by NBR 14724 are:

  • Name of author (or authors when more than one);
  • Title;
  • Subtitle (if any);
  • Volume (this case is much less usual, because the monographs are increasingly objective);
  • Menu.

The menu consists of several information:

  • Nature of the work: If the academic work is about a thesis, dissertation, TCC’s and other works of an academic nature. In our case it is the work of conclusion of course;
  • Objective: for which the work was accomplished, such as obtaining in approval in a discipline, obtaining master’s degree, doctor, specialist, etc;
  • Institution: the university where the work was done;
  • Area of concentration: the area of labor research;
  • Name of advisor and co-advisor when available;
  • City;
  • Year.

With all these items set, a small text is assembled. Example:

Monograph presented to the examining board of the University of Taubaté – Unitau – as a requirement to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Social Communication – qualification in journalism under the guidance of Professor Marcelo dos Reis Pimentel.

Faceplate formatting

The student needs to stay connected in the formatting of the cover sheet, which has well defined data. See specifications:

(Upper margin limit – Source 12, BOX HIGH, not bold)

(title: font 12, bold if subtitle should be preceded by: font 12, no bold, HIGH BOX)

Work submitted to the examining board of the institution name, as a requirement to obtain a bachelor’s degree (licentiate or technologist) in (name of the course), under the guidance of the teacher (name of the teacher).

(font 11, single line spacing, 7 cm left margin indentation)

(Lower margin limit, source 12, HIGH BOX)

Back cover sheet

In accordance with what defines NBR 14724 on the back of the title page “It must contain the cataloging-in-publication data, according to the current Anglo-American Cataloging Code”.

Anglo-American Cataloging Code

If there is in Brazil the ABNT to standardize the norms in general in the country, the Code of Anglo-American Cataloging is directed to the organization of works of all the species.

Simply put, it is nothing more than that sheet that comes in all books containing data and codes like ISBN, author’s name, publisher, areas in which the work is directed, copyright, edition number, in case of foreign work the title original, among others.

As the monograph is an official publication, the cataloging form is mandatory.

This sheet shall include:

  • Extensive title;
  • Record;
  • Year;
  • Extended name of the advisor;
  • Nature;
  • Institution Name;
  • Subjects;
  • Last name;
  • Name;
  • Again the name of the institution;
  • Title.
